On average, Botox lasts 2-4 months depending on the area that is treated.

Most people actually see an improvement in their skin and their pores after Botox. Botox shrinks pores, and also makes the skin appear smooth.

Very rarely an individual might break out after Botox but it is most likely a sensitivity reaction from the cleanser used (alcohol or chlorhexidine) than from the Botox itself.

What are the bad side effects of Botox?

When used cosmetically in healthy people side effects are rare and usually mild. Overall most side effects can be reduced or diminished completely with proper injection technique.

Some side effects include: pain at the injection site, redness, swelling, asymmetrical results, heavy brows, dropped brows, or very rarely a droopy eyelid.

Make sure to tell your injecting provider if you have any medical conditions, allergies, or if you are taking any medication to minimize side effects.

Do lines get worse after Botox?

Lines do not get worse if you get Botox treatments and then stop. This is a common myth that comes from a theory that if the muscles treated atrophy (shrink) that the skin will become more loose and saggy. In reality, when you stop treating with Botox the muscle comes back to full strength and lines go back to either same as before or slightly less.

Can you become resistant to Botox?

A large study cited on UpToDate of over 2200 people found that only 0.0049% developed anti-bodies against Botox and only 0.0013% developed true resistance. So the short answer is that yes it is possible but highly unlikely.

If you have tried Botox and haven’t had a good result, chances are that it could be the dosage or injection technique. You could also try a different form such as Xeomin and see if that works better for you.

What are the ingredients in Botox?

Botulinum toxin, sodium chloride, and human albumin (a large protein found in our blood).

The ingredient of human albumin is often why you are asked if you have an allergy to eggs or if you have ever had a reaction to a vaccine as the components are similar.

Can vegans get Botox?

Technically, Botox is not vegan due to the human albumin. The albumin is from a donor that willingly donated blood products. So this all depends on the individuals’ personal/religious beliefs on whether this would be appropriate for them.

What are the 3 areas for Botox?

The 3 most commonly treated areas for Botox are glabella frown lines (11’s lines between the brows), forehead lines and crow’s feet. All of these areas are considered “FDA approved” for Botox but it’s common to treat other areas “off label” such as: bunny lines, lip lines/lip flip, orange peel chin, or facial slimming by treating the masseters.

How much does Botox Cost?

As with any medical or cosmetic procedure you are not just paying for the product, but also the quality, expertise and technique of the injector.

Otherwise, you can go back to normal activities (while following post care instructions). There can be little, pink/red. raised spots from the initial pokes, but they go down within 20-30 minutes.
